Family Owned and Operated Cannabis Extraction Lab – Coming Back To New Jersey

We are a family owned company, in the truest sense. The Principals are Joe, Paige, and AJ
(father, mother, son). We are the archetypical Mom and Pop operation, not a distant
corporation. We take personal pride in what we do, as we have the first 8 years of our Journey.
How did we get here? What makes our company so different? Well, it all started when Joe
became frustrated by his job in 2013. Joe worked for the pharmaceutical giants such as Merck,
Amgen, and Bristol-Myers Squibb since 1987, after he completed his Masters degree at MIT. As
he rose through the ranks, he became expert at safely scaling chemical processes. He loved his
job during the pharmaceutical golden age of the 1990’s, but the industry began to unravel in
the 2000’s. Finally fed up with the hypocrisy and greed of big Pharma, he retired in 2013, and
looked for other things to work on.

That’s where AJ came in. Freshly out of Florida State with a business degree, he had plans for
his dad.

Cannabis.

AJ encouraged his father into looking into the new industry, using his expertise in chemistry as a
reference. Joe examined the cannabis landscape, and realized that extraction was a promising
field to explore. After reading up, he realized that the current extraction methods were either
dangerous (butane, hydrocarbons), obsolete (CO 2 ), or inefficient (ethanol, rosin press).

Joe rapidly devised a vastly superior extraction method, and applied immediately for a patent.
The application was approved, and we were granted US patent 11040295 several years later.
The next stage in our evolution was demonstrating the patent on larger scale (after all, an idea
must be proven). At the time (~2016), Colorado was the place to be. Its adult market was young
but flourishing, and provided excellent opportunities for experimentation. We started in a
garage, then moved to a larger space to continue data gathering.

Our method worked well, and we sought to enter the NJ market. We worked with an
established Alternative Treatment Center (medical) which:

 Provided an opportunity to work closely with the State’s Health department,
 Have the State review our method and equipment,
 Gain approval for our process after an onsite inspection by the head of the Cannabis
Commission,
 Ultimately produced the finest extract in NJ for tinctures and vape pens.

We were set to go in NJ, but the state had not approved adult sales, and there was no
immediate path forward.

So, we went to Vermont to extract hemp for CBD.

We established Vermont Organic Science in 2019, with the purpose of Organically extracting
hemp. Hemp is cannabis, and all cannabinoids are completely extracted using our process
regardless of the CBD or THC levels.

We were one of the few hemp processors in the Northeast to be fully certified as Organic by
USDA.

This is where Paige comes in. She handled everything from the books, inventory and
compliance, to assisting with the processing. She was the Rock of the company. She continues
in that role.

While the market for CBD products never took off (thanks to the pandemic), we perfected our
second-generation process, turning literally tons of hemp into hundreds of Kg of CBD oil. It was
a nice gig, and an excellent R&D opportunity, but it was time to move on.

We established Jersey Extraction Lab in 2021, looking to produce superb extracts from premium
biomass for the adult use market in NJ. With space rented, equipment on hand, we are ready to
go, once approved.
